Who we are
RevyseAI (“Revyse”, “we”, “us”) makes a study app that turns your lecture notes into summaries, quizzes, flashcards, podcasts and answers. This policy covers the RevyseAI mobile app, the web app at app.revyseai.com and this website at revyseai.com. Together we call these the “service”.
We are the controller of the personal data described here. If you have a question about this policy or want to use any of the rights below, email us at revyseteam@gmail.com.
The short version
- We collect what you give us when you sign up and study, plus a small amount of technical information needed to run the service.
- Your notes are read by an AI provider so Revvy can make your study material. They are not used to show you ads and we do not sell them.
- We do not run advertising, ad trackers or third party analytics in the app.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app at any time.
What we collect
Account details
When you create an account we collect your email address and a password, or the details shared by Google or Apple if you sign in with them. With Google or Apple we receive your name and email address. We never see your Google or Apple password.
On the mobile app we also ask for a first name, last name and username when you sign up with email.
Profile details
You can add more to your profile if you want to. This includes a display name, phone number, school, education stage (such as secondary school or university), the language you prefer, your study goals and a profile picture. All of these are optional except where the app needs a name to show you.
The material you upload
When you upload a document (a PDF or Word file), we read the text out of it and store that text, split into sections, along with the file name. We use the stored text to make your study material and to answer your questions. Where a feature lets you open the original file again, we also keep the file itself in private storage linked to your account.
What Revvy makes for you
We store the things the service makes from your material and the work you do with them. This includes summaries, key points, chat messages with Revvy, quizzes and your answers and scores, flashcards and how well you know each one, podcast scripts and audio, courses you create, schedule events you add (title, description, location and time) and your study streaks and badges.
Your voice
If you ask Revvy a question out loud, your recording is sent to our AI providers to be turned into text and answered. The spoken reply is generated as audio and sent back to your device. Where a feature lets you play a voice conversation back, we keep the recordings and replies in private storage linked to your account. Otherwise they are not kept after your question is answered.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push token for your device, whether it is an Android or iOS device and your time zone offset. We use these to send reminders at a sensible time of day.
Technical information
Our servers keep logs when your device talks to them. These logs include your account ID, the time, the request made and whether it worked. Like any website or server, ours receive your IP address when you connect. We also count how many uploads and AI requests each account makes in an hour so we can apply fair use limits.
We do not collect your contacts, your location or a device identifier, and we do not use advertising IDs.
Payments
RevyseAI is free right now. When we add paid plans, payments will be handled by a payment provider. We will receive a record of your plan, what you paid and when, and whether the payment went through. Your full card or bank details go to the payment provider and are not stored by us. We will name the provider in this policy before paid plans go live.
This website
The revyseai.com website does not ask you to sign in and does not set cookies. It saves your light or dark theme choice in your browser’s local storage so the page looks the same next time. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when the page loads. The site is hosted on Vercel and the Android app file is served from Cloudflare, and both keep standard server logs.
How we use your information
We use your information to:
- create and run your account and keep you signed in
- read your material and make summaries, quizzes, flashcards, podcasts and answers from it
- save your progress, streaks and schedule so they are there when you come back
- send reminders and notifications you have turned on
- run multiplayer quiz rooms you create or join
- process payments and manage your plan, once paid plans are available
- answer you when you contact us
- keep the service secure, prevent abuse and enforce our terms
- fix problems and improve how the service works
- meet our legal obligations
We do not use your material or your personal data to show you advertising, and we do not sell personal data to anyone.
Our legal reasons for using it
Where data protection law asks us to give a legal basis, we rely on the following:
- Contract. Most of what we do is needed to provide the service you signed up for, such as storing your notes and making your study material.
- Consent. We send push notifications and use optional profile details because you choose to give them to us. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings or by removing the details from your profile.
- Legitimate interests. We keep logs, apply rate limits and look into misuse so the service stays safe and reliable for everyone.
- Legal obligation. Sometimes we have to keep or share information because the law requires it.
AI processing
RevyseAI uses AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic (the maker of Claude) to do the AI work. When you use the service, we send the provider handling that task the parts of your material it needs, your questions and prompts, your recent chat messages with Revvy, voice recordings for transcription and text to be read aloud. The provider returns the result and we store it in your account.
Both providers process this data for us under their commercial API terms. Under those terms, data sent through their APIs is not used to train their models by default. They may keep data for a limited time to monitor for abuse, as described in their own policies.
AI output can be wrong. Please read the terms section on AI content before relying on anything Revvy makes.
Who we share it with
We share personal data only with the service providers that help us run RevyseAI, and only as much as each one needs. They are:
- Supabase, which hosts our database, handles sign in and stores profile pictures and podcast audio
- Railway, which hosts our API servers
- OpenAI and Anthropic, which provide the AI described above
- A payment provider, once we offer paid plans, which will handle your payment details
- Expo, Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service, which deliver push notifications to your device
- Google and Apple, if you choose to sign in with them
- Vercel and Cloudflare, which host this website and the Android app download
- jsDelivr, a content network that the app loads some formatting tools from when you read a summary, which means it receives your IP address
We may also share information if we have to by law, to protect the rights, safety or property of our users or the public, or as part of a merger, sale or transfer of our business. If the business changes hands, this policy will continue to apply to your data unless you are told otherwise and given a choice.
What other people can see
Most of what you do in RevyseAI is private to your account. There are two exceptions.
Multiplayer quiz rooms. When you join a room, other players in it can see your name and score on the room leaderboard. If your account has no name, the part of your email address before the @ is shown instead. The questions in a room are made from the host’s uploaded material and are shown to everyone in that room. Only host a room with material you are happy for the other players to see.
Profile pictures and podcast audio. These are stored at web links that anyone who has the exact link can open. The links contain long random strings and are not listed anywhere, so they are very hard to guess, but they are not password protected.
Where your data is stored
Our providers run servers in several countries, so your information may be stored and processed outside the country where you live, including outside Nigeria. When we transfer data abroad we use providers that offer strong security and contractual protection for personal data, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and other laws that apply.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and everything in it for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, your stored material and everything made from it, your progress and your files straight away. Some copies may stay in backups or logs for a short time before they are overwritten.
Voice recordings that are not kept for playback are discarded once your question is answered. Server logs and usage counters are kept only as long as we need them for security, troubleshooting and fair use limits.
We may keep information for longer where the law requires it or where we need it to resolve a dispute.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- correct information that is wrong or out of date
- delete your account and your data
- object to or ask us to limit how we use your data
- withdraw consent you gave earlier
- ask us to move your data to another service
You can edit your profile and delete your account yourself in the app. Deleting your account is under your profile, and you will be asked to type your email address to confirm. For anything else, including a copy of your data, email revyseteam@gmail.com. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request, and we will reply within 30 days.
If you are in Nigeria and you are unhappy with how we handled your data, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. If you live elsewhere, you can complain to your local data protection authority. We would like the chance to sort it out first, so please contact us.
Security
Your data travels over encrypted connections. Access to our database is controlled so that each account can only read its own data, and only a small number of people working on RevyseAI can reach the systems that hold it. No service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else, and tell us straight away if you think your account has been accessed by someone else.
Children
RevyseAI is made for students, including secondary school students. You must be at least 13 years old to use the service. If you are under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian, and they should read this policy with you.
We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Storage on your device
The mobile app stores your sign in session, your notification and reminder settings and some cached quizzes on your device so the app works quickly and keeps you signed in. The web app at app.revyseai.com uses cookies to keep you signed in and a small browser setting to remember a reminder you have dismissed. None of these are used for advertising or tracking you across other sites.
Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the service or the law changes. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If a change matters a lot, we will also tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
